And now for something completely different...

My Mom and Dad have been sneaking boxes over to my house every time they come to visit. I guess they would like to finally see their children leave the nest (at least their old stuff anyway). So I have been sorting. I have been finding all sorts of treasures. Well…treasures for a moment, and then, they mostly become trash or MCC donations.

Today I found a little poem that I obviously found so amusing at one point in my youth that I bothered to write it down. Maybe I just knew that one day I would be posting daily in the month of November and would become a little desperate around the 16th. Enjoy.

Cinderella

I guess you think you know this story,
You don’t. The real one’s much more gory.
The phony one, the one you know,
Was cooked up years and years ago,
And made to sound all soft and sappy
Just to keep the children happy.

Mind you, they got the first bit right
The bit where in the dead of night,
The ugly sisters, jewels and all,
Departed for the palace ball.
While darling little Cinderella,
Was locked up in the slimy cellar,
Where rats who wanted things to eat
Began to nibble at her feet.

She bellowed, “Help!” and “Let me out!”
The magic fairy heard her shout.
Appearing in a blaze of light,
She said, “My dear, are you alright?”
“All Right?” cried Cindy, “Can’t you see
I feel as rotten as can be!”
She beat her fist against the wall,
And shouted “Get me to the Ball!
There is a disco at the palace!
The rest have gone and I am jalous!
I want a dress! I want a coach!
And earrings and a diamond brooch!
And lovely nylon pantyhose!
Thereafter it will be a cinch
To hook the handsome royal Prince!”
The fairy said, “Hang on a tick.”
She gave her wand a mighty flick.
And quickly, in no time at all
Cindy was at the palace ball!

It made the ugly sisters wince
To see her dancing with the Prince.
She held him very tight and pressed
Herself against his manly chest
The prince himself was turned to pulp,
All he could do was gasp and gulp.
Then midnight struck. She shouted “Heck!
I’ve got to run to save my neck!”
The prince cried, “No! Alas! Alack!”
He grabbed her dress to hold her back.
As Cindy shouted, “Let me go!”
The dress was ripped from head to toe.
She ran out in her underwear,
But lost one slipper on the stair.

The Prince was on it like a dart,
He pressed it to his pounding heart,
“The girl the slipper fits,” he cried,
“Tomorrow morn will be my bride!
I’ll visit every house in town
Until I’ve tracked the maiden down!”
Then rather carelessly, I fear,
He placed it on a crate of beer.
At once one of the ugly sisters,
(the one whose face was blotched with blisters)
Sneaked up and grabbed the dainty shoe,
And quickly flushed it down the loo.
Then in its place she calmly put
The slipper from her own left foot.
Ah-ha, you see, the plot grows thicker,
And Cindy’s luck starts looking sicker.

Next day the Prince went charging down
To knock on all the doors in town,
In every house, the tension grew,
Who was the owner of the shoe?
The shoe was huge and frightfully wide.
(A normal foot got lost inside.)
Also it smelled a wee bit icky.
(The owner’s feet were hot and sticky.)
Thousands of eager people came
To try it on, but all in vain.
Now came the ugly sisters’ go
One tried it on. The Prince screamed “No!’
But she screamed, “Yes, It fits! Whoooppeee!
So now you’ve got to marry me!”

The prince went white from ear to ear,
He muttered, “Let’s get out of here.”
“Oh no you don’t! You’ve made a vow!
There’s no way you can back out now!”
“Off with her head!” the Prince roared back.
They chopped it off with one big whack.
This pleased the Prince. He smiled and said,
“She’s prettier without her head.”
Then up came sister number two,
Who yelled, “Now I will try the shoe!”
“Try this instead!” the Prince yelled back.
He swung his trusty sword and smack –
Her head went crashing to the ground.
It bounced a bit and rolled around.

In the kitchen peeling spuds,
Cinderella heard the thuds
Of bouncing heads upon the floor,
And poked her own head round the door.
“What’s all the racket?” Cindy cried.
“Mind your own bizz.” The prince relied.
Poor Cindy’s heart was torn to shreds.
My prince! She thought. He chops off heads!
How could I marry anyone
Who does that sort of thing for fun?

The Prince cried, “Who’s this dirty mutt?
Off with her nut! Off with her nut!
Just then, all in a blaze of light,
The magic Fairy hove in sight.
Her magic wand went swoosh and swish!
“Cindy!” She cried, “Come make a wish!
Wish anything and have no doubt
That I will make it come about!”
Cindy answered, “Oh kind Fairy,
This time I shall be more wary.
No more Princes, no more money.
I have had my taste of honey.
I’m wishing for a decent man,
They’re hard to find. D’you think you can?”
Within a minute, Cinderella
Was married to a lovely feller,
A simple jam maker by trade.
Who sold good homemade marmalade.
Their house was filled with smiles and laughter
And they were happy ever after.

Seriously?

Seriously?
September ALREADY?!

Seriously?

Wow.

That's all I've got.

Oh, and this...

Cutest. Baby. EVER.

Head Scratching Info from the Mind of the Uninspired

Is it December already? I've had "update blog" on my to do list for over a week now. Just waiting for the inspiration to kick in. With all the hustle and bustle that comes in December, I hardly have time to compose any logical thoughts, so here are a few things that are not so logical. A few things that made me go...huh?!

*Do you know the hottest thing on the auction market for Christmas this year is a big lump of rhinoceros poop? Yes, if you are looking for just the right thing for that special someone, you can purchase, for the bargain price of $500, a lovely, freeze dried, glass encased piece of near extinct rhino poop. Seriously, nothing says I love you, like a big piece of crap. Incidentally...this is not on my wish list.

*Did you know that you can purchase on eBay a 215 inch TV for only $16.98? Now that is breakthrough technology at a bargain basement price. Buy two, and they will throw in two 1963 airbrush paintings of Archie and Jughead. Seriously, you can find ANYTHING you need on eBay. Or anything you don't need...

*I heard on TV today that Oprah makes $422.00 a minute. A MINUTE. That's sixty seconds people! No wonder she can afford to give so much stuff away. She is richer than Queen Elizabeth. Could you imagine the number of TVs she could get off eBay with that kind of daily income?

*Harv was at a hockey game tonight, and dropping the game starting puck was a lovely bride, dressed in white complete with groom and bridal party entourage. Seriously? Is that your dream? To interrupt your wedding to drop the puck at a junior level hockey game? Well, I guess some cut the cake, some throw the bouquet, and others throw a piece of rubber for a bunch of sweaty men with sticks. Now that's romance.

Well, that's it. That's all I've got for tonight. My mind is as blank as my pool of inner inspiration.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words...

Not much new around here...house work, yard work, church work, miracle of life...that sort of thing. Isn't it neat how when there isn't much to say, nature jumps in and speaks for you?
Oh, and p.s....I LOVE our yard!

That's a GREAT Idea!!

This little ditty has been circling the blogging kingdom, and I am jumping on board. Thanks Becky!

Leave one memory that you and I had together in the comments section. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember! Feel free to steal this idea for your blog and join in the fun!

Now I know I have a lot of lurkers out there, so this is an invitation to come out of hiding. C'mon people, don't let me down. You know who you are. :)

Everything You Didn't Know You Wanted to Know About Me...

The one benefit of procrastination, is that everyone has a chance to forget that EVERYONE has already posted this. I am jumping on the bandwagon. Better late than never right?

Best News I've Heard All Day...

The word is out, and not a shadow is in sight. Oh thank you little groundhog friend, for bringing us the happy news...

And soon we can look forward to this vision of warmth and beauty...

Soon my yard love-fest will begin. I can hardly wait. (Sorry Becky. I just can't help myself.)

Just Say No!

Just say no. If you are walking through Wal-Mart and see a salty little snack that peeks your interest – just say no. If you are looking at this particular snack and feel a sense of wonder as you read it’s claims of fiber, 0 trans fats, and baked krispy goodness, just say no. If you decide to buy this particular item, and think – “What the heck, I’ll get this other flavor as well.” just say no. If you think about having a little pre-supper-fill'er-upper, and grab this ketchupy snack…

...thinking that you have found the golden ticket that will help you give up your Old Dutch Ketchup chip addiction forever – just say no. And if, when you have your first taste, and your face scrunches up in a twisted ball of confusion and horror, remind yourself that you should have just said no. And if in desperation you decide to open this… ...to get rid of the taste of the first fatal mistaken bite, seriously – just say no. And as you gag and choke, cursing the name of this company that duped you into believing its claims for a “great taste and a better you” remind yourself again to just say no.

Just. Say. No.

Seriously people.

Things that you may or may not care to know about me!!

Becky “tagged” me. That’s just blogger lingo for a writing assignment. Yippee! I’m always up for an assignment. I feel like such a journalist. Except instead of writing about strife in the Middle East, or the effects of BSE on the economy – I get to write about – little ole’ me!

So here we go…FOUR THINGS:

FOUR JOBS I’VE HAD…
1. Potato, dirt, rock and weed picker on my Dad’s farm. I realized quickly that I was not meant for a life as a farmer.

1. Grey’s Anatomy. I could watch this every night. I LOVE it.
2. “Thursday night Must See TV” Friends (re-runs sniff sniff) E.R.
3. My Reality TV fixes: Survivor, American Idol & Amazing Race
4. Isn’t that enough? We do have things to do!

FOUR PLACES I’VE VACATIONED…
1. The U.S.A. – I’ve felt the heat of Texas, nearly threw up at Space Mountain in Disney World, climbed the Statue of Liberty, saw the carved faces at Mt. Rushmore, been terrified driving through the Rockies, and hiked down into the Grand Canyon.
2. Ottawa for our honeymoon
3. The unforgettable Nova Scotia
4. Viewing the White shell, one cabin at a time

FOUR OF MY FAVORITE DISHES…
1. Kraft Dinner and fresh garden corn.
2. Pepperoni, mushroom and pineapple pizza Yum Yum.
3. B.B.Q’d burgers and corn on the cob – will summer ever come?
4. Chinese food – fried rice, egg rolls, chop suey, chicken balls, veggies…just the traditional stuff that some consider boring, but I can’t live without!

Oh, and lets not leave out dessert…the DQ Blizzard.

FOUR SITES I VISIT DAILY…
1. Shirley’s Blog – not that I am vain…I just really am hoping people have made comments!!
2. Blogs, blogs and more blogs.
3. Hotmail (my email)
4. Sympatico – MSN for entertainment and interesting facts so many things.

Well, there you have it. Little known facts about me. Now I would like to see everyone that reads this blog, pick a question and list your four. C’mon, don’t be shy. I know I have some regular readers that don’t speak up on here…now’s your chance!! You know who you are!! And Claudette, seeing as how I so promptly responded to your email/quiz – I am expecting you to be the first to reply…

Have good night all!

I Just Don't Get It...

My friend Becky gave me a little writing assignment. What are the things that I just DON’T GET?! I feel like such a journalist…my first real assignment. I wonder if this is how Barbara Walters got her start?! Anyways…here is my list…things that make me scratch my head and go…hmmmmm.

1.I don’t get…why the phone rings the minute you sit down on the toilet. Happens every time.
2.I don’t get…why my shower curtain always billows and sticks to my leg.
3.I don’t get…why I have to bag my own groceries at Superstore. C’mon people…I'm a nice person. PLEASE couldn’t you just bag my groceries…is that really asking too much? REALLY?!
4.I don’t get…hair tonic for men.
5.I don’t get…drive through florists. I mean really, if my husband can’t be bothered to get out of the car and get me flowers…don’t bother.
6.I don’t get…why there are 800 different kinds of pickles. Do we really NEED 800 different kinds of pickles? I stand there are stare in confusion…I don’t know what I want…extra garlic, no garlic, roasted garlic, dill, really dill, garlic and dill, crunchy, sour and crunchy, baby dills…too many choices!!! I CAN’T TAKE IT!!!!
7.I don’t get…why my cat attacks my feet ONLY when I have black socks on. Not white, not cream, not bare feet. Just black. What is it that she sees?
8.I don’t get…the difference between high speed, light speed and extra light speed. Extra light is slower than light. But doesn't extra light mean not as heavy, so you can move faster? They didn’t think that one through.
9.I don’t get…multiple varieties of the same drink. I just heard of a diet black cherry coke. If I want a coke, I will drink a coke. If I want a black cherry, I will drink a black cherry. Who comes up with these things?
10.I don't get...tattoos. They NEVER come off people.
11.I don’t get…Sexy underwear for 13 year olds. I saw some 13 year olds buying things that would make anyone blush. Why do they need that? They just whipped out their credit cards in between text messaging on their cell phones. Times, they are a changing.
12.I don’t get…acid washed jeans. Now that was a fashion faux pas if I ever heard of one.
13.I don’t get…Why Donald Trump doesn’t talk, he yells. And he always looks so mad. And really, if he is such a billionaire, can’t he afford a good hair stylist?
14.I don’t get…who came up with words like toque, or slacks. Seriously…were there NO better words? NONE?! REALLY?!??
15.I don’t get…call waiting. I hate it. I can’t believe that you could be talking to someone, take another call, and then decide who you would rather be talking to. RUDE. Ya…I guess that is my bitterness spewing forth from being a frequent loser of the call waiting face off. Sigh.

Just a few things that I don’t get. I would love to hear some of yours. Feel free to share. I would really be curious to hear from Michelle and Claudette and Amy and, actually never mind...I would like to hear from all of you!!! Thanks for the assignment Becky! I think I hear Pulitzer calling my name…
